I haven’t got the faintest idea of what it feels like to be a father (maybe because I’m not one) but fatherhood is definitely one of the things I pray life will bring my way. And like most men I want a son, whether he comes first or last Im not concerned.
Why is it that most men always want a son? I dunno. But one thing I do know is that all men hold this deluded idea that they will be the coolest dad. The dad that all their sons friends are just in awe of because he just does the dopest shit, gives the best advice and looks like he still has a clue. Well I’m no different. Only difference is, I will be that cool dad, its destiny.
Of late the idea of fatherhood has been on my mind and particularly what kind of father I’d be. So naturally when i think, iBlog. So here’s a letter to my unborn son.
To my unborn Son,
Firstly I would like to apologise to you because knowing myself I probably wasn’t in the room when you entered this world. Now this has got nothing to do with you and all to do with me. I just cant stand anything to do with blood, pain and female genitalia isnt the prettiest. As things stand I will probably just stay in the closest bar and get the doctor to send me a text once you’ve decided to grace us with your presence. I’m sure you will understand. Your mum probably wont though. Not that her opinion counts.
If intentions count for anything then I would like to let you know that I intend to be the best dad a son could possibly desire. Hopefully my actions will mirror my intentions but just remember one thing. Contrary to what many will tell you I am actually human and will make mistakes. Hopefully I can be man enough to admit them. I’m a simple man and this is how I believe life should be lived, simply. Simplicity is genius and allows us to escape the unnecessary BS that others seem to revel in. Just identify the essential and eliminate the rest.
So here’s my simple advice:
1) Believe your the Best: If you don’t show people that you believe in yourself they wont believe in you. There’s no one else on this planet that is like you so you must be the best YOU there is or there will be. Take confidence from the fact that you are one of a kind. Rarity = Value.
2) Life is a Gift: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. Don’t concern yourself with the worries of tomorrow or the failures of the past. You have been given today so make the most of it. carpe diem.
3) Money is very important: A wise man once said ‘mo money mo problems’ but believe me you would rather have the problems that come with having mo’ money than the problems that come with no money.
4) Anything worth doing is worth doing well: Its always good to look back at something you have done and say I gave it my best shot. Also, if you are going to do something bad at least do it properly. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.
5) Don’t confuse activity with productivity: They say hard work never killed anyone but why risk it? Always try and do things as well as you can but in the least time possible. Time is precious.
6) Always smell good: Girls like this. Cartier do some good stuff.
7) Be humble: No one likes anyone that thinks too highly of themselves. ‘To become truly great one has to stand with people not above them’.
Read the bible: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth
9) Take Risks: Especially when you’re young as there is less to lose, fortune favours the brave and great achievements involve great risk.
10) Learn to cook: I’ve been on this planet over two decades and still struggle to put a decent meal together. I am heavily reliant on your grandma when it comes to food. This is not the way forward.
11) Google: www.google.com
12) Pay compliments: People always like to hear good things about themselves, even if you’re not sincere about it look like you are.
13) Take care of your body: Girls like this. But more importantly I know you will have a lot to offer the world so you need to be around for as long as possible. Stay healthy.
Son, life is full of ups and downs but just take the rough with the smooth, those who worry have worries, so don’t worry. Walk with your head up and your chest out and give life your best shot. Be reassured that I will help whenever and wherever I can and if I can’t, refer to point 11.
Till we meet.
Supernova.
