So as we come to a close of the first decade of the 2000’s we can all look back on the technology that has made our lives easier and helped us to find a way to waste hours at work, school, home or wherever. In the early 2000’s YouTube launched and the way we watched videos changed forever. So it is only fitting that as we end this decade we take a look at some of the best videos found online over the last ten years.
I’m the juggernaut bitch, 2003
We start off with a video that was so popular it actually influenced the film it was a parody of. What we have here is the result of some guys who thought it would be funny to put their voices over an episode of the X-men and guess what? It was funny! This video not only makes its way onto our list but also cements the Juggernaut as one of the baddest motherf#’@$r ever!
Star Wars Kid, 2002
Ok, now no one is a bigger star wars fan than me, I once spent a whole weekend watching all six Star Wars movies back to back but even I have to admit this was pretty lame. Poor guy he probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a friend and a woman’s pair of breasts probably because he has seen neither. But his loneliness launched him into internet stardom in 2002. Fair play.
Daft Bodies, 2007
Daft Punk’s harder, better, faster stronger is famous for two reasons; Kanye West’s sampling the hell out of it and for this viral ad by two ladies who very skilfully manage to display the lyrics to the song with just their body parts. This video sparked 100’s of imitations but the originals always best.
Cadbury’s gorilla, 2008
Now who doesn’t know this advert? A gorilla, a set of drums and Phil Collins. Apart from making a bloody brilliant advert it also sounds like a good night in.
Leerooooooooooooy Jenkins!, 2005
I love this video even though it’s staged. A group of players plan a cunning attack on World of Warcraft; everyone has their roles and in order to succeed everyone needs to follow their instructions precisely. Then out of nowhere one maverick decides its time to go solo and let’s out his battle cry: “Leeroooooooooy Jenkins!” and then runs ahead obviously ruining what seems like hours of planning. Hilarious.
George Bush doesn’t care about black people, 2005
In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, many celebrities got together to encourage us to help out in any way we can. In a clearly unplanned move Kanye West let out exactly what was on his mind. My favourite part is Mike Myers’ instant reaction to it. If looks could speak Myers’ look would have gone “whaaaaa??????”
Man vs. Bear, 2000
The earliest of the videos on the list is exactly what it is titled. In an internet viral that turned into a television advert for John West Salmon products a man takes on a bear in fight to show the extents John West will go to bring you the freshest tinned salmon. It does sound stupid but after a while you do find yourself shouting “finish him!” when the man kicks the bear in the nuts.
Da Vinci.
