Well, ’tis the season to be Jolly’ and regardless of religious disposition come end of November people’s thoughts tend to sway toward Christmas festivities. There’s no denying that there’s a certain magic associated with christmas time and my memories of the holiday as a kid still give me that excitement in the pit of my stomach. The sheer anticipation of the day was enough to keep me up all night.
Christmas is my favourite time of year. These are my 7 favourite things about christmas:
1. FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD:
In my family lunch is a serious thing, christmas lunch is a VERY serious thing. So much so that mums actually starts on the 23rd and camps in the kitchen till the am of the 25th! Don’t feel sorry for her as the amount of food prepared means she doesnt have to cook till the new year. In fact it should be called christmas feast for my house. We eat till we pass out!
2. FILMS:
Even if you’re not a fan of the festivities one of the best things about christmas is the way TV seems to all of a sudden come alive. But have you noticed how the days running up to christmas the best films are on and the days after up till new years but actual christmas day TV is absolutely shyte?! but yeh….Home Alone. No explanation needed.
3. LAZINESS
Christmas week, probably the only 7 days of the year where laziness and absolute apathy are socially acceptable. I personally am an extremist so I tend to take this to a whole new level and in my household ‘eat, sleep, drink and be merry’, is our creed so christmas time we go into overdrive!
4. FOOTBALL
As the majority of us settle down for a slow and relaxing christmas and New Years our friends in the football world are gearing themselves up for the busiest period in the football calendar. The Premier League fixture list is at its most congested and most of the games tend to be on the box. You may be thinking shame on them ‘aaaaww they get no christmas’, well if I twas earning those bucks I would gladly forfeit christmas every year! Come on u Reds!!!
5. ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY’
Whether you celebrate christmas or not there’s something about the spirit of the season. Unless your a motherfucking scrooge (I hate scrooges) you can’t help but catch the happiness in the air. Staff in the shops are that bit friendlier all be it in the hope of you spending that bit more but who cares!!! Children are reeling with excitement and adults are overjoyed at the fact that they can forget work related troubles. Just be happy this christmas please. Thank you.
6. SNOW
‘Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow’…Well for some of us in the world winter is actually a cold season and year after year the hope of a white christmas is never realised. I mean when was the last time we actually had a white christmas (cues google tab). However this year we are very hopeful, it has snowed this week and fingers crossed christmas day those white things will fall again!
7. CAROLS
From the traditional carols like away in a manger to more contemporary material like Destinys Child 8 days of christmas, christmas is not complete without the soundtracks to the season. This nicely brings me on to the christmas number one malarchy…. Erm no 1 cares.
So those are some of the good things I see in christmas. Feel free to share some of yours.
Eat, Sleep, Drink and be Merry.
Godspeed
Supernova.
