Music alters mood.

For many its exam season and Lord knows if you’re going to do anything worthwhile this year you need to be in the right mood! For many others it may not be exam time (count your blessings) but there comes a time in everyone’s life when we have to sit down, pick up a pen and do some work. If you’re like me this is no easy feat! However anything in life can be made better with music i.e. jogging, sex, cooking.

And sometimes we need a little assistance to get into that zone and the right album can do just that!

So I’ve compiled a list of 7 albums to work along to:

1. Q TIP – THE RENAISSANCE.

While the content of this album is heavy the sound is light, which is exactly what is required of any music that you select to be the soundtrack to your revision/work. Throughout the body of work Q Tip blends sounds of soul and jazz with smooth hip hop.

2. MAXWELL BLACKSUMMERSNIGHT.

When reading through chapters of bullshit you most definitely need to feel relaxed. This album is relaxing.

3. AMY WINEHOUSE – FRANK.

Her critically acclaimed debut album has gone down well with everyone I know that has heard it. From the intro (stronger than me) to the outro we’re graced with the unique voice of Winehouse and a collection of simple but appealing sounds. Good stuff. Just press play and pick up that pen.

4. MGMT – ORACULAR SPECTACULAR.

Fantastic album from a fantastic band! The sound is quirky but not crazy and vibrant but not distracting. With a short and sharp listen, mgmt present a chronicle of their unique sound. The album is sprinkled with tracks that’ll get you nodding your head but nothing too heavy.

5. FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE – LUNGS.

We love this album round these parts and it gets weekly rotation. Its just pure greatness, epic sounds, dope shit, absolutely crazy, mindbogllingly fabulous…….. you get the picture hopefully.

6. THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE – CONNECTED.

Now when it comes to the perfect album to work along to this is it. How on earth can an album sound so good but at the same time you don’t even realise its playing? Get involved with this album my friends. Even the album cover makes you zone out!

7. CORINNE BAILEY RAE – CORINNE BAILEY RAE.

Perfection.
